"So what is it that you do?"

I used to struggle with this. What did I do exactly? Create websites? Help with marketing? Get my clients more clients? Make them money? What exactly did I do?

My messaging wasn't clear. It was confusing because I was confused. I've been there. I see you struggling because I once struggled too.

My message became more clear to me over time, but one thing that helped me get that clarity was Building A StoryBrand by Donald Miller. Once I applied his framework, my entire business was altered.

What it is

This is an amazing resource about branding and positioning your message. This is one of a select few books that I can tie directly back to the results I get now.

Building A StoryBrand outlines a proven process for coming up with your brand messaging. And keep in mind, your brand is your business if you're a service-based entrepreneur.

Even if you've struggled in the past, this framework can help you achieve your vision for your business. It's simple and straightforward, setting you up for success.

Here's a quick YouTube video that explains the framework wonderfully:

"Building a Storybrand" by Donald Miller - Storytelling - BOOK SUMMARY

Often we hear things like

  • You need to define your ideal client

  • Learn what problems they have

  • Then tell them how you help them

But how? What's the best way to define that client? What types of problems do they have? And how exactly do you differentiate yourself?

What we get from that is typically a jumbled mess that is confusing. And often it does the exact opposite of what we want it to do. It drives away those very same ideal clients that we want to help.

How it works

By using the Building A StoryBrand framework, you go through a system of exercises to get really clear on exactly what your message should be. Rather than trying to find out all the problems your ideal clients struggle with, you find a main three (and they aren't what you think).

Rather than positioning yourself as the hero in all of your marketing messages, you position your business instead, as the guide. Your ideal client is the hero in this story.

And what's with the story? Stories sell. Did you know that the Lion King from Disney is the same basic story as Hamlet? Granted it has a kid-approved ending, but we see the same stories told over and over again.

With a clear framework to follow, it’s now easy to see what needs to be posted and how to keep the message consistent throughout all of your marketing materials.

Why it works

Our brains are wired to find patterns. And stories are clear patterns that we're used to seeing. So our brains LOVE stories. We crave them. They bring order to our complicated lives if told right.

It's amazing what a simple transformation can do for you and your business once you nail the messaging.

And it works well for you as well. Now instead of shooting around in the dark, wondering what you should post, you know exactly what to post.

What problems do your heroes have? How does the guide help them? What’s the plan? Why does the plan work? What outcomes are awaiting our hero?

Telling the story where everything focused around your hero, you have some great things to post about and posts that will stand out.

What is going on in your niche? How does it relate to your ideal customer? Can you tell a story using it? Another post.

There are many different ways you can spin posts on social media with your ideal client at the center and you as their guide.

Instead of shooting around in the dark, wondering what you should post, you know exactly what to post.
