How Can I Improve the Happiness of My Employees?

Research has shown that happy employees are 12 percent more productive than employees who are dissatisfied with their jobs. The good news for employers is that there are several simple things that you can do to make employees happier.

Lunch Breaks

In today’s work culture, many employees believe they will be appreciated more by their employers if they work harder for a longer amount of time. Some employees have even expressed the belief their employer will think less of them if they take a lunch break or take advantage of the entirety of the time allotted to them for their lunch breaks.

Whether this is true or not depends on the employer. What is not up for debate, however, is that this approach to work is not conducive to a happy and productive workforce.

Research has demonstrated that employees who take lunch breaks on a daily basis are more productive, much happier, and more creative.

Help Your Employees Progress

Make it a point to help each of your employees develop new skills and enhance the skills they already have. You should also provide a path for them to improve their position within your business.

Your employees will appreciate the thought that their training and development are important to you. Your business will benefit from the ability you will have to match that training and development positions in your company that need to be filled.

Encourage Health and Wellness

The benefits of encouraging your employees to participate in healthy activities include a reduction in sick days, increased productivity and improvement in happiness and general well-being.

You can encourage participation in a health well-being program you start for employees by making sure they understand all the potential benefits of the program.

Experts suggest that wellness programs can challenge employees through friendly competition to become better versions of themselves. You can help the process along by tracking results and recognizing high performers.

Noncash Awards

Cash is often the first thing that comes to mind when people think of gifts for holidays or other reasons. However, cash is a generic gift without personality and the inability to communicate true appreciation.

Studies have shown your employees would much better appreciate you for taking the time to find a gift other than cash to show your appreciation for their efforts.

It is no secret that a happy employee is much more productive than an unhappy employee. The workplace is also a much better place to spend time when everyone is in good spirits.

Employers who wish to take a proactive approach to employee happiness have a lot of methods to facilitate their happiness at their disposal.
